Demand for Nissan LEAF is on the Rise, Notes Ferman Nissan of Tampa


Thanks to a price drop and a revamp in 2013, the Nissan Leaf is more popular than ever.

TAMPA, FL, February 04, 2014 /24-7PressRelease/ — Nissan is already selling 2000 Leafs a month in the United States, including many at Tampa dealerships. But thanks to a price drop of $6,000, to $29,650, the 2013 Nissan Leaf is seeing higher demand than ever. Nissan said last fall that it would increase production at its plant in Smyrna, Tennessee. The price cut was possible once the car’s production was moved from Japan to a United States’ plant.(1)

How popular has Nissan’s electric car become? Well, in all of 2012, there were 9,819 Leafs bought by US consumers. However, from January 2013 to October 2013, Nissan had already sold 18,078 Leafs — nearly double what they previously sold the past year.(1) In September 2013, sales of the Nissan Leaf passed the 35,000 mark since the car’s US launch in December 2010. The 2013 Nissan Leaf, available at Ferman Nissan in Tampa, has been revamped, with a new on-board charger that cuts a full charge time in half, from eight hours to four, at a 220V outlet.(3) There’s a new entry-level S version of the Leaf, in addition to the SV and SL models. The SL has gotten a few extra upgrades like leather-appointed seating and 17-inch aluminum alloy wheels.(3)

The Leaf aims to be an electric car without compromise, and to that end Tampa Nissan dealers have models with options like an energy-efficient Bose audio system that was custom built for this particular electric car.(3) It uses less energy without compromising sound quality — which is especially important in a nearly silent car.
