Calgary Moms sip on tea, nibble on treats and enjoy a day of pampering, while raising money for kids battling cancer

Calgary, AB (FSCwire) – On Sunday May 13, 2018 from 3:00 to 4:30 pm, the Helping Families Mother’s Day Tea is taking place at Dalhousie Community Centre (5432 Dalhart Road NW) where 80+ Moms and their families will enjoy an old-fashioned high tea. Proceeds of this event benefit Helping Families Handle Cancer. Last year the Helping Families Mother’s Day tea raised $3,700. This year our goal is to raise $4,500.

After being diagnosed with childhood cancer at the age 13 months old and battling until she was 6, thirty-three-year-old Carie Stock founded Helping Families Handle Cancer. This charity helps families with the expenses that come along with having a child battling cancer at the Alberta Children’s Hospital.

“Every Mom deserves to be pampered”, said Carie Stock, Founder and Executive Director of Helping Families Handle Cancer, “and while they’re enjoying the day with their family, they are raising money to give to other families that have a child battling cancer, allowing them worry-free time together, with less financial pressure. We are so grateful that this event was embraced by the community last year, which means we’re able run it again this year”.

“The Helping Families Mother’s Day Tea has quickly become an important part of my family’s spring activities. Having someone very close to me be a survivor of childhood cancer, knowing the effects it has on so many families, and being the mother of young children myself, I can’t imagine getting through it without the support of my community. This event lets us celebrate Mother’s Day, while knowing we’re standing behind other parents, in the midst of a crisis and one of the most difficult times of their lives”, said Kendra Brost, two-time Mother’s Day Tea Attendee.

ABOUT HELPING FAMILIES HANDLE CANCER

Helping Families Handle Cancer is a not-for-profit organization that strives to alleviate some of the stress of childhood cancer by providing financial support to families in need, due to the time commitment at the hospital, in caring for their child. The Helping Families Care Programs purchases items such as parking passes, medical supplies, medication not covered through benefits, rent, gas, groceries and other household bills that families are struggling to pay for as they take time away from work to be with their child during this critical time. To date, Helping Families has helped over 522 families at the Alberta Children’s Hospital with over $500,000 in financial support, giving more precious time with their litter hero!
