Newfoundland and Alberta based business leader Glen McKay has about 40 years of experience in supplying consumable products to resource based industries and commercial businesses.
Glen McKay began as a Business Development Executive and Branch Manager of Minpaco in St. Johns, Newfoundland, which led him to create a specialized equipment company in 1978. As the President and founder of MRO Supplies Ltd, Glen grew the company for over ten years. The company specialized in equipment sales for Mining, Pulp and Paper, Fisheries, Forestry, Marine, Quarries, Water, Sewer and Roadbuilding. In 1989, MRO was successfully sold to Stellar Industrial from Nova Scotia.
During and after this time Glen founded or co-founded four more companies that are still active:
1979 – Sealan Capital Corporation Inc. (founder). Investments.
1985 – Newfoundland Hard-Rok (founder). Glen has had extensive work experience in explosives manufacturing and drilling-blasting services. In 1985, he was appointed the regional Newfoundland distributor for DuPont Explosives. The company, Newfoundland Hard-Rok Inc., was incorporated by Glen in 1987 who then sold part of it to two key employees. It has since has become a very successful venture. As a major shareholder, Glen is the Chair of the Board of Directors and on a day to day basis he manages finances and administration.
1987 – Apex Construction Specialties Inc. (co-founder). In 1987 Glen McKay provided the start up capital required for the company to commence operation. The company specializes in construction and building products, specifically catering to roofing, waterproofing, industrial and residential fencing, architectural hardware and door products. Apex Construction maintains professional affiliations with Newfoundland and Labrador Construction Association (NLCA), Heavy Civil Association of Newfoundland and Labrador, Canadian Construction Association (CCA) Gold Seal Certification. Glen served as the Board Chairman and maintained a major share ownership until 2017 when the company was sold to an investment group in Quebec.
1997 – Cornerstone Capital Resources Inc. (co-founder). Cornerstone Capital Resources is a key player in mineral exploration in Ecuador and Chile. The company continues to drill for mineable porphyry copper gold deposits and was the discoverer of the Casabel project in Ecuador. The company is funded entirely by joint venture partnerships and Glen maintains his role in the company as a major shareholder.
At Apex Construction, Glen McKay provided start up capital for the company’s investment portfolio in
1987. The company specializes in construction and building products, specifically catering to roofing, waterproofing, industrial and residential fencing, architectural hardware and door products. Apex Construction maintains professional affiliations with Newfoundland and Labrador Construction Association (NLCA), Heavy Civil Association of Newfoundland and Labrador, Canadian Construction Association (CCA) Gold Seal Certification. In 2017 the company was sold to an investment group in Quebec.
Glen has had extensive work experience in explosives manufacturing and blasting. In 1985, he was appointed the regional Newfoundland distributor for DuPont Explosives. At Newfoundland Hard-Rok, Glen continues to sit on as the Chair of the Board of Directors for the drilling, blasting and explosives manufacturer. His day to day includes managing finances and administration for the company’s assets.
Glen McKay has been proactive in entrepreneurial opportunities in Newfoundland and Labrador. He has been a key player in resource exploration and development, sales of product to resource based industry and commercial business, and private equity investment in the region and continues to make a significant impact in the Newfoundland and Labrador business community.
