Editorial Guidelines and AI Transparency Statement
Our mission at Wise Publishing is to empower our readers with the knowledge and tools necessary to make wise financial decisions. To do this, as publishers, we follow the Canadian Association of Journalists ethics guidelines.
Rather than restate the policy, we thought it more useful to you, the reader, to understand how we incorporate those standards to ensure trust.
To achieve our mission, you need ot be able to trust what you read. We ensure this trustworthiness by:
- providing accurate information, using only credible sources, fact checking and presenting information impartially;
- being transparent in everything we do, from ensuring all quotations are precise and attributed, citing our sources in articles and clearly labeling any information that is an advertisement;
- using discipline and rigour to provide you with valuable comparison tools powered by a robust review methodology;
- and remaining independent and avoiding conflict of interest by providing reviews that are based solely on methodology and without partner influence and by prohibiting any gift giving or other forms of influence. We do not give favoured treatment to advertisers and special interests.
AI Transparency Statement:
- Wise journalists use AI tools to support research, drafting, and analysis, in the same way they use search engines, databases, and other research tools.
- Every Wise Publishing story is owned, written, fact-checked, and edited by a human journalist, and is approved by a human editor before publication.
- We do not publish unedited or minimally edited AI outuput as journalism.
- We never publish a synthetic image of a real person, in a story, thumbnail, on social media, or anywhere. The photographs we publish are photographs. We do not generate images or illustrations for our journalism. Where we reproduce an AI-generated image is because the image itself is what we are reporting on, and we label it plainly.
- On designed promotional graphics - video thumbnails, social cards, newsletters headers - we use AI-assisted design tools that isolate and arrange real, licensed photographs, but we do not use AI to invent or alter what those photographs show.
- Our editorial standards for accuracy, fairness, and reader trust apply to every piece we publish, regardless of which tools were used in its production.
- We retain documentation of substantive AI use in our editorial workflow and review it as part of our internal quality assurance.
