Black Friday has gradually become one of Canada’s most popular shopping events of the year. In fact, four out of ten Canadians plan on taking advantage of various Black Friday deals in 2021, and three out of ten are eyeing Cyber Monday sales as well.
Concentrating your shopping during these blowout sale events can be an effective way to save money, especially if you’re in the market for expensive products like kitchenware, electronics, or major appliances. Here’s our list of the best Black Friday deals you shouldn’t miss in 2021.
When is Black Friday 2021 in Canada?
Black Friday 2021 will be on Friday, November 26. The specific date changes from year to year but is always on the Friday following American Thanksgiving. Cyber Monday 2021 will be on Monday, November 29.
Best Buy
Best Buy Canada is my must-visit retailer for Black Friday shopping. Their Black Friday sales can save you hundreds of dollars on tech, including smartphones, smart televisions, laptops, tablets, and even appliances.
Best Buy is offering early Black Friday pricing on hundreds of products, and if prices drop lower during Black Friday itself you get refunded the difference. Here are some of the top deals you can expect from Best Buy on Black Friday:

Walmart
Walmart Canada is starting Black Friday deals early this year on November 17. Early deals include discounts in practically every department, including appliances, electronics, home essentials, and sports. There’s also Walmart’s Toy and Gaming event that begins at 12 a.m. EST on November 25, which will include more deals. Walmart Canada’s full Black Friday event begins November 25 at 9 p.m. EST.
To sweeten the deal, shoppers get free shipping on orders over $35 and free Walmart pickup on orders over $25. Like last year, expect Black Friday deals on electronics, fitness equipment, kitchen appliances, homegoods, and appliances. You can also download the Walmart Canada app to stay up to date on the latest deal.
The Home Depot
The Home Depot has plenty of early Black Friday deals starting November 4 to help you plan the perfect home improvement project. Shoppers get up to 40% off across departments like appliances, decor and furniture, kitchen, and tools. You also get free delivery on select items over $49 and free 90-day returns.

Amazon Canada
For online savings and convenience, it’s tough to beat Amazon any given day of the week. When you add Black Friday sales into the mix, the mega-retailer’s pull is even more pronounced.
Amazon.ca currently has early Black Friday deals ahead of its main sale period running from November 25–26. Deals include discounts on popular appliances, electronics, apparel, home goods, and personal care products. Many time-sensitive deals range from 15% to 50% off, and you still enjoy fast and free shipping through Amazon Prime.
Costco
Costco hasn’t released its Canadian Black Friday flyer yet, and there aren’t any early online deals. However, Costco has historically been one of the best places to do your Black Friday shopping, especially if you’re looking for deals on major and small appliances, electronics, and groceries.
If you’re planning on shopping at a Costco store in person you’ll need at least a Gold Star Costco membership, which costs $60 per year. But non-members can shop online at Costco.ca, and shipping is free for many products.
Dell
If you’re in the market for a new computer, Dell has you covered, with massive discounts on Black Friday for both desktop and laptop computers, including $449 off the new G15 Gaming Laptop. You can access these deep discounts anywhere that Dell products are sold or directly from their website.
Canadian Tire
Canadian Tire has ongoing early Black Friday deals that let you save up to 70% on categories like Christmas decorations, electronics, kitchenware, tools, toys, and winter tires. Canadian Tire is rotating products out of its early sales page quickly, so check back regularly to see what’s on sale. Other tips for saving on Black Friday
The Black Friday deals listed above can help you save substantially, but you can score additional discounts and come in way under budget if you keep the below in mind during your shopping bonanza.
Prioritize the essentials
Completing a renovation project or replacing an old appliance are examples of how to make the most out of this sale period; but if you don’t plan ahead Black Friday can easily morph into an escapist spending spree rather than an opportune time to save on things you genuinely need. Create your shopping list and then make a budget a few days or weeks before Black Friday by looking for early-bird deals that stores promote online and in flyers. Once you know exactly what you’re shopping for and what it will cost you’ll be able to assess if an item truly fits into your finances or if it’s better saved for your more affluent future.
Save more at the register
One of the best ways to earn back on your purchases during Black Friday is to make transactions with a rewards or cash back credit card. Earning cash back on already-discounted products keeps more money in your pocket, and buying big-ticket items helps you meet minimum spending requirements for a big credit card sign-up bonus you’re working toward. Explore reward apps and programs
There are a number of reward apps Canadians can use to score additional cash back or a free gift card for Black Friday, including at some of the stores featured on this list.
For example, the Ampli app by RBC lets you earn cash back when you shop at partner merchants with your regular debit or credit card. Ampli partners with retailers like Adidas, Frank And Oak, Best Buy, and The Home Depot; the cash back you earn stacks on your credit card rewards and the store’s special Black Friday deals. You cash out via e-Transfer once you earn $15 in cash back.
Another option is Rakuten.ca, which partners with over 750 Canadian retailers and pays you with real cash for shopping at those partners. Partner retailers include Canadian Tire, Indigo, Old Navy, Sephora, Sport Chek, and Walmart. You get paid quarterly via check or PayPal, and new users get a $5 bonus.

Whether you’re planning to shop from home or brave the crowds this Black Friday, we recommend being as prepared as possible by researching in advance. Identify which products you are looking for to minimize the amount of time spent at each retailer, maximize your savings by hunting down the best deals, and then double up with cash back credit cards or cash-back apps.
